Natascha Schmitten (b. 1986) is from Bonn and is currently based in Cologne, Germany. In 2014, Schmitten graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. Her paintings reside on a boundary between figuration and abstraction, displaying multiple layers of semi-transparent, flowing colour and creating a pictorial space that is constantly fluctuating. “My vision is always moving between ‘real’ space and pictorial space, which becomes more or less abstract” – says the artist. Schmitten was awarderded multiple artist residences and awards, including STRABAG Art Award in 2017.
