Citra Sasmita

Citra Sasmita (b. 1990, Bali, Indonesia) is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose work challenges myths and misconceptions surrounding Balinese art, culture, and gender norms. Drawing from the vibrant genealogy of traditional Balinese  painting, Kamasan, she reinterprets its techniques—often guarded by male lineages—to express feminist perspectives. Her practice incorporates multisensory elements to explore the experiences of women in Bali, blending tradition with contemporary discourse. Informed by her background in literature, physics, theater, and illustration, Sasmita’s work bridges diverse fields of knowledge to address social issues with originality and depth.
